Description
Introduction (10 min) Hook & Concept Intro Start with a simple question: "Have you ever wondered why something works the way it does?" Explain that the scientific method is a universal "recipe" for answering questions and testing ideas in a structured way. Display the 6 steps on the board.
Explanation & Modelling (20 min) Step-by-Step Breakdown: Go through each of the 6 steps one by one. Use the "Ice Cube" scenario to model how a scientist thinks:
Step 1: Question "I wonder if the temperature of water affects how fast an ice cube melts?
"
Step 2: Hypothesis "I predict that the ice cube in the warm water will melt faster than the ice cube in the cold water because the heat will break down the ice faster."
Step 3: Experiment Set up the demonstration
Activity/Application (10 min) Data & Conclusion During the experiment (which will be ongoing during the next few steps), prompt students to make observations (Step 4: Data). After a few minutes, wrap up the demonstration by discussing what happened (Step 5: Analyse) and if the hypothesis was correct (Step 6: Conclusion).
Assessment/Wrap-up (5 min) Quick Check: Ask students to write down the 6 steps in order on their worksheet or a chat box. Alternatively, present a different question ("Does sunlight help a plant grow faster than a plant in the dark?") and ask students to write a Hypothesis (Step 2).
