Description
Pre-Reading (10 min) Vocabulary & Prediction Introduce key vocabulary from the story: Ask students to predict what a story might be about.
During Reading (20 min), Guided Silent Reading & Annotation, Students read the story read out loud. Instruct them to highlight or underline parts that show Elias's personality before and after the mill incident. Teacher models how to ask questions while reading (e.g., "Why does Elias not speak much?").
Post-Reading (15 min) Comprehension Check: Students answer basic comprehension questions. Discuss answers as a class to ensure understanding of the plot.
Analysis (15 min) Character & Theme Deep DiveCharacter: Discuss how the actions changed the villagers’ perception. Contrast his silence with his heroism.
