Lesson Plan: Lunchtime Yoga Class
Level: A1 (Elementary)
Duration: 50 minutes
Objectives:
- Improve reading comprehension skills.
- Learn vocabulary related to events and classes.
- Practice writing and speaking skills.
Materials Needed:
- Printed copies of the poster (or digital access).
- Whiteboard and markers.
- Vocabulary matching exercise handouts.
- Optional: Yoga mats for demonstration.
Lesson Outline:
1. Warm-Up (10 minutes)
- Ask students about their experiences with yoga or exercise classes.
- Brainstorm vocabulary related to health and fitness.
2. Preparation Task (10 minutes)
- Hand out a matching exercise where students match vocabulary words (e.g., “yoga,” “class,” “teacher”) with definitions or images.
- Review answers as a class.
3. Reading Activity (15 minutes)
- Distribute the poster text about the yoga class.
- Students read the text individually.
- In pairs, students discuss the details: when, where, how much, and how to join.
4. Comprehension Check (10 minutes)
- Ask questions to check understanding:
- When is the yoga class?
- How much does it cost?
- What should students bring?
- Encourage full sentences in responses.
5. Writing Exercise (10 minutes)
- Students write a short email to Sam (provided email in the text) to express interest in joining the yoga class. Include:
- Their name.
- Why they want to join.
- Any questions they have.
6. Discussion (10 minutes)
- Facilitate a discussion on the importance of physical health and exercise.
- Ask: “Do you participate in any classes outside of work? Why or why not?”
