Lesson Objectives: By the end of the lesson, the student will be able to:

1. Answer the phone professionally in a work setting.

2. Use simple phrases for basic workplace conversations. 

3. Practice polite greetings, making requests, and small talk.

 

Lesson Plan:

1. Warm-up ( 5  minutes) 

 * Greet the student and ask simple questions

2. Vocabulary and Phrases Introduction (10 minutes)

 * Phone Greetings and Phrases: 

        Hello, this is [name]. How can I help up? 

        Could you please hold for a moment? 

        Thank you for calling. Have a nice day!

 * Simple Workplace Conversations:

        Greetings: “Good morning, how are you?

        Requests: “Can you help me with this task?

        Small talk: “Did you have a good weekend?

3. Practice Exercise (10- 15 mins)

  Role-play 1: Answering the phone || Student practices greeting, taking messages, and ending the call politely.

  Role-play 2: Workplace conversation || Simple dialogues like asking for help, making small talk, or greeting a coworker.

4. Listening & Response Practice (5 - 10 mins) 

        "The teacher reads short workplace dialogues over the phone."

        Caller: Hello, is this Anna from XYZ Company?

        Student: Hello! This is Anna. How can I help you?

        Caller: I’d like to ask about my order.

        Student: Sure, can you please hold for a moment while I check?

        Caller: Thank you.

        Student: Thank you for waiting. I’ve checked your order, and it will arrive tomorrow.

        Caller: Great! Thanks for your help.

        Student: You’re welcome! Have a nice day.

5. Wrap-up and Homework ( 5 minutes ) 

  Review key phrases and expressions

  Homework: Write down 3 phone greetings and 3 simple workplace conversations to practice.
