Learning Objective
Students will be able to identify and apply the "Magic E" rule to read and spell CVCe (consonant-vowel-consonant-silent e) words, changing the short vowel sound to a long vowel sound.
The "Magic E" rule is a phonetic guideline: when a word ends in a single vowel followed by a single consonant and then the letter 'e', the final 'e' is silent, but it makes the preceding vowel say its "long" name (the name of the letter itself, e.g., 'a' says /ay/, 'i' says /igh/)

Introduction (5 min)
Review Short Vowels Quickly review the short sounds of A, I, O, U using simple words like cat, sit, dog, run. Emphasise that these are "short and fast" sounds.
Concept Intro (10 min) Introducing the "Magic E" Tell students we have a "magic letter" that can change the way words sound: the silent 'e'. Display the word CAP. Ask students what sound the 'a' makes. Add 'e' (making it CAPE). Explain that the 'e' jumps over the consonant to tell the a to say its name. Model the new sound /k-ay-p/.
Guided Practice (10 min): Transforming Words. Work through other word pairs as a class. Students say the short-vowel word first, then the long-vowel word:
