Information

Do you all know the drama called Oshin? The place where I live is Sakata City in Yamagata Prefecture, the city where Oshin worked as a servant. It's about 500 km north of Tokyo. The red area at the top is the Tohoku region. The red area at the bottom is Sakata City, Yamagata Prefecture.

Sakata City is a port town. During the Edo period, it flourished greatly by transporting rice and valuable safflower from Sakata to Edo (present-day Tokyo) and Osaka. Even today, you can see the culture of that era, like Hina dolls, every March. The residences of wealthy merchants also still exist. This photograph shows a kimono dyed using safflower as a dye. It results in a very vivid color.

Sakata City's ramen was crowned Japan's best at the 2023 Japan Local Ramen Grand Prix, a major ramen competition held in Tokyo. It was a ramen featuring flying fish and kombu broth. This photo shows the exact same ramen served at that event.

Sakata City is also famous as a granary region. The city's residential areas and commercial districts are surrounded by the Sea of Japan to the west, Mount Chokai to the north, and rice fields to the east and south. It is also called the City of Food.

This photo shows anmitsu, a Japanese sweet. It is made with sweet red bean paste, sugar, agar, and fruit. It is especially popular in summer.

Because of this, it's a relatively laid-back area. The people living here are often kind and considerate when you strike up a conversation.

This doll is one example of the dolls cherished by the common people of Sakata City since the late Edo period.

If you're interested in Sakata City and Japan with its historical and wonderful culture, why not try my lessons? In my lessons, if you wish, I can teach using photos I've taken of Sakata City's scenery, events, food, and more. I can also answer  questions you might have about traveling.

These cherry trees were planted after the war by the citizens of Sakata, wishing for peace. Every spring, their beautiful blossoms and fragrance soothe people's hearts.

Even if you have no particular interest in information about Sakata City, I will clearly explain conversational phrases, writing, and words and expressions commonly used by Japanese people. If desired, I can also explain the nuances of words and expressions to support you in creating natural Japanese sentences on your own. In my lessons, I reuse words and expressions introduced in previous sessions. This way, if students review these terms on their own, they become easier to use in real situations.

Since September 2021, I have provided online Japanese lessons tailored to the wishes of many students. Thankfully, students have described me as a patient teacher who makes lessons enjoyable. I strive to tailor lessons to each student's physical condition and pace as much as possible.

Qualifications: Eiken Grade Pre-1

Hobbies: Home gardening, photography, painting, etc.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. I will answer them clearly to the best of my ability.

I look forward to seeing you in class.

Thank you. Arigatou.
