About Me

My name is Amber, and I’m from South Africa – a beautifully multicultural country with 12 official languages, including sign language. Growing up surrounded by different languages and cultures has shaped the way I communicate and connect with people.

From 2022 to 2024, I worked as a senior high school English teacher in Japan. I especially enjoyed one-on-one coaching for speech contests, university interviews, and Eiken exams, as well as leading the English club. These experiences deepened my love for creative expression, personalized guidance, and meaningful conversation in English. 

I now specialize in reflective, coaching-style English lessons for learners who enjoy deep thinking, emotional insight, and exploring diverse perspectives. I’m passionate about helping students speak not just fluently – but also authentically.

My Approach

My lessons are designed to help you express yourself more clearly, confidently, and authentically – in both professional and personal relationships. I approach each session with care and attentiveness, observing your learning style, goals, and interests in real time. This allows me to shape each lesson around your needs – not a fixed curriculum. 

 

My lessons focus on:
·       Expressing complex thoughts and feelings with clarity and ease
·       Building confidence in interactions with colleagues, teams, friends, or family
·       Navigating group or interpersonal dynamics with emotional intelligence
·       Using storytelling and creative dialogue to expand thinking and deepen insight

I especially love helping people reconnect with the deeper parts of themselves like empathy, creativity, emotional depth, and curiosity, and apply those qualities to build stronger, more authentic relationships. 

If you’re looking to grow your confidence and fluency in English while also developing your communication skills, emotional awareness and creativity, I’d love to support you. As a Japanese learner myself, I know the challenge isn’t only about grammar and vocabulary, it’s also about trusting your voice.

 

A Little More About Me

Before teaching, I worked as a medical technologist in South Africa (臨床検査技師), where one of my main responsibilities was training new staff in laboratory procedures. This sparked my love of teaching and ultimately led me to the JET Programme and to life in Japan. I now live in Saitama Prefecture, in the so-called hottest city in Japan – Kumagaya.

Outside of work, I enjoy reading fantasy novels, playing tennis with my husband, doing street photography, and exploring human psychology and spirituality. I have various interests and I’m always trying new hobbies. I’m a thoughtful, open-minded, and empathetic person who thrives on meaningful connection. I also have a great sense of humour!
