Hello! I'm Lauren (or Ren) from Los Angeles! I taught English for 6 years in Seoul, Kanazawa, and Nagoya. I love teaching English conversational skills to beginners, intermediate students, and beyond!
I graduated with a BA in English Literature with a magna cum laude award. My focus is in improve English confidence to build your smooth communication skills.
You may think, "Why is it important to be able to speak another language confidently if we have translation apps?"
Let's look at my life as an example. I had wonderful experiences because I tried my best to learn Korean & Japanese while I lived there. Locals were much more hospitable to me when I tried, even if my vocabulary or grammar was off.
For example, I was on NHK twice! I volunteered to help at Hyakumangoku, Kanazawa's local biggest festival. I was assigned to be in the parade, and got to chat with the interviewer & walk with some of my friends later on!
I've also been in the local newspaper after doing a Misogi purification ritual at a local shrine. The worst part of the ceremony wasn't the almost freezing water temperature. It was getting out afterwards!
Why was I chosen to be interviewed for both events? It was because I spoke some Japanese, and was confident!
Because of my experiences, I am looking to teach students English for conversation, business, travel, school, and for personal self-development.
As such, my lessons focus on:
- common conversations
- helpful travel words & phrases
- discussing experiences / activities
- asking or giving directions
- talking about your personal hobbies, likes, thoughts & feelings
