Description
Introduction (5 minutes)
-
Warm-up: Start with a friendly greeting and a quick check-in. Ask the student if they ever get lost or if they've ever had to ask for directions. This personalizes the lesson and gets them thinking about the topic.
-
Introduce the Topic: Explain that today's class is about "Asking for and Giving Directions." Explain that by the end of the lesson, they will be able to navigate a neighbourhood using key English phrases.
Main Activities (15 minutes)
-
Vocabulary: Introduce and practice key vocabulary and phrases. Write the words on the screen or use flashcards.
-
Verbs: Go straight, turn left, turn right, cross.
-
Nouns: Street, corner, block, intersection.
-
Prepositions: On the corner of, next to, across from, between.
-
-
Visual Practice: Present a simple, fictional map and ask the student to describe where certain places are. For example, "Where is the park?" or "How do I get to the library?" This is a great opportunity for them to practice using the prepositions and verbs they just learned.
-
Role-Play: Switch to a role-play activity. You can be the "tourist" asking for directions, and the student can be the "local" giving the directions. Then, switch roles. This is where they will apply all the vocabulary and concepts from the lesson in a practical setting.
Wrap-up (5 minutes)
-
Review: Quickly recap the key phrases and vocabulary from the lesson. You can use the map again and ask them to give you directions to a few different places to make sure they've retained the information.
-
Preview: End with a quick word about what the next lesson will be, for example, "Next time, we'll talk about ordering food at a restaurant." This creates a smooth transition and gets them excited for the next class.
