Each session focuses on a theme and practices natural expressions commonly used by native Japanese speakers.
No preparation required!
Relax and challenge yourself using your current Japanese level.

★ Theme-based Japanese Skill Up (January) ★
① Desert Island Survival
Using a desert island scenario, you will discuss what to bring and how to act,
while practicing how to explain your choices with clear reasons.
② Language Style & Character
Learn how sentence endings and speaking styles change the impression you give.
By speaking as different characters, you will reflect on
your own language use and communication style.
③ Bears Appearing in Towns
Using recent news about bears appearing in residential areas,
you will learn useful vocabulary and practice talking in Japanese about
“What would you do if it were you?”
You can choose the theme you like.

★Theme-based Japanese Skills UP (December)
① Improve Your Speaking Skills with Japanese Dramas & Movies!
The goal is to learn how to summarize briefly and describe memorable scenes clearly.
- Summarize the drama/movie you recently watched
- Describe a memorable scene from a drama or movie you’ve seen before
- Do you watch with subtitles or without? Explain your reasons
- Think about the benefits of watching dramas on streaming services
- Reading practice
(Some lessons may be split into two 30-minute sessions)
② Aim to Be a Better Speaker
This lesson is recommended for learners who know many grammar patterns but can’t use them smoothly in conversation.
We will practice using grammar and expressions in real speaking situations.
Grammar / expressions example:
～といえば / ～ことなく / ～たびに / ～あっての / ～の甲斐 / ～ときたら
Vocabulary: 口下手 (poor speaker), 場数を踏む (gain experience)
- Are you good at talking with people? (first meetings, in front of many people, etc.)
- Talk about someone memorable (e.g., an old boss or coworker)
③ The Light and Dark Sides of “Oshikatsu”
Using the theme of “oshikatsu,” we learn expressions often used in social issues and practice expressing opinions at length.
Examples: 散財する (spend too much) / 貢ぐ (devote money to) / 拍車をかける (accelerate) / 闇バイト (illegal part-time jobs)
- What problems do you think exist in young people’s free “oshikatsu”?
- Practice expressing your ideas using the new vocabulary
- Finally, enjoy a discussion on topics such as: “Is youth necessary for idols?”
