Japanese for Building Connections in Japan

Speaking Japanese well does not always mean that communication with Japanese people will be easy.

In this lesson, you will learn not only grammar and polite expressions, but also how your words may be understood by others and how to use Japanese to build positive relationships in Japan.

We will explore real-life situations, such as how to say “thank you” naturally, how to approach a coworker, how to respond when someone helps you, and how to politely decline an invitation.

Through practical role-plays and discussion, you will think about questions such as, “Does this sound natural?” and “How should I respond in this situation?”

The goal is not to teach you how to “fit in” with Japanese society, but to help you develop Japanese that allows both you and the people around you to communicate comfortably and build better relationships.
