Warm up duscussion.

Goal: Activate interest in the topic and assess prior knowledge

“Do you watch or read the news in English?”

“What kind of news stories interest you? (e.g., science, sports, health, world events)

 

Vocabulary review.

Goal: Teach key words before listening

Choose 5–7 important words from the news reel/article
Example for a news story about climate change:

  • greenhouse gases

  • emissions

  • renewable energy

  • global warming

  • climate policy

Activity: Matching exercise or simple definitions.

Quick check:

“What does ‘emissions’ mean in this context?”
“Can you give an example of ‘renewable energy’?”

Listen to news reel or read news article.

Goal: Practice listening for main ideas and details.

 

Comprehension questions.

Example:

  1. What is the problem discussed?

  2. What are the causes or effects mentioned?

  3. Who is affected?

  4. What is being done to solve it?

Feedback and corrections.
