In this lesson, we’ll discuss a TED Talk of your choice, one that you’ve watched in advance during your free time. If you’re not sure which talk to choose, I’d be happy to help you select one that fits your interests and level.

 

Each session is built around:

  • A short TED video (usually 5–15 minutes)

  • Discussion questions prepared just for you

  • Key vocabulary and phrases drawn from the talk

  • Fluency-building practice through critical thinking and conversation

🔹 What you’ll gain from this lesson:

  • Improved listening comprehension

  • Exposure to natural, authentic English

  • Discussion practice using meaningful, real-world language

  • Deeper cultural and global awareness

  • Personalised feedback and notes after each session

You’ll receive a short assignment or reflection activity after each class to reinforce the new language and ideas you've learned.

TED Talks are a fantastic way to learn English and expand your knowledge of the world, from neuroscience to storytelling, from climate change to emotional intelligence.

As a teacher, I love using them to spark meaningful conversations with my students.

TED Talks is an incredible teaching tool that gives students a healthy dose of general knowledge alongside authentic English conversations. These short presentations will offer you the chance to engage with new ideas while practicing language learning skills in a fun, innovative way.

There are countless free videos to choose from on hundreds of topics, all presented by leading experts in their given field. The whole goal of this lecture series is to spread information around the world, helping to educate people and open minds to new ideas.

More specifically, TED Talks can be used for:
 
• Enhance your listening comprehension skills by listening to different native-English speakers on a variety of topics.
• Learn vocabulary by highlighting key words and expressions from each talk.
• Get the chance to practice your own English-speaking skills in discussion and presentations.
• Learn to think creatively by creating your own presentations.
• Get introduced to different cultures, ideas and information from around the world.

Not only does this make learning English more fun, it will also help you gain deeper insight into North American and British culture, helping you learn how to speak more naturally.
