Using Adjectives to Talk About What I Love

Introduction (5 minutes)

  • Warm-up: Start with a friendly greeting. Ask the student to tell you about their favorite food, animal, or color. This helps build rapport and gets them comfortable speaking.

  • Introduce the Topic: Explain that today's lesson is about using adjectives to describe the things we love. Explain that by the end of the class, they will be able to describe their favorite things in more detail.

Main Activities (15 minutes)

    • Adjective Match: Begin by introducing a few pairs of opposite adjectives (e.g., big/small, fast/slow, happy/sad). Use simple pictures to make the concepts easy to understand. Have the student match the adjectives to the correct images.

    • "My Favourite..." Activity: Choose a few categories (e.g., food, animal, place). Ask the student to pick one from each category and describe it using at least three adjectives. Prompt them with questions like:

      • "What is your favorite food? Why?"

      • "Is it sweet or sour? Is it warm or cold?"

      • "What does it look like?"

    • Picture Descriptions: Present a picture of a favorite animal

or a place (e.g., a beach). Ask the student to describe what they see in the picture using the adjectives they've learned and new ones they might think of. You can provide some options to help them.

Wrap-up (5 minutes)

  • Review: Quickly recap the adjectives covered in the lesson. Ask the student to tell you about their favorite thing one last time, this time challenging them to use a new adjective.

  • Homework/Practice: Encourage the student to find three new adjectives before the next class and use them in a sentence. This reinforces the learning and encourages independent practice.

  • Preview: End by mentioning the next lesson. For example, "Next time, we'll talk about how to describe our family and friends using adjectives."
