Description

Graduate school interviews aren’t English tests.

The interviewer wants to understand who you are, how you think, why you want to study there, and what you can contribute.

This 55-minute coaching lesson helps you communicate those things naturally, clearly, and confidently—for graduate school admissions, scholarship interviews, and other academic interviews in English.

More Than Practicing Answers

A strong interview isn’t a collection of memorized speeches.

We’ll work on the ideas behind your answers first.

I may ask:

“Why?”
“Can you give me an example?”
“What did you learn from that?”
“Why does that matter?”
“How does that connect to what you want to do next?”

Then we’ll work together to make your answer clearer, more concise, and more natural in English.

The goal is not to create a script.

The goal is to make sure you know your own story well enough to tell it naturally.

Mock Interviews That Actually Feel Like Interviews

As your interview approaches, we can move from coaching into realistic mock interviews.

I’ll ask follow-up questions based on what you say rather than simply reading down a predetermined list.

That matters because the real interviewer may not ask the question you practiced.

You need to be ready for the conversation, not just the question.

When possible, we can also research the university, program, interview format, and likely areas of discussion so that your practice reflects the interview you’re actually preparing for.

My Coaching Philosophy

I don’t believe in memorizing scripts.

Memorized answers often sound memorized—and they can fall apart as soon as the interviewer asks an unexpected follow-up question.

Instead, we’ll build a collection of ideas, examples, experiences, and personal stories that you know how to talk about from different angles.

By interview day, the goal is for you to walk into the room thinking:

“I know what I want to say.”

—not—

“I hope they ask the question I memorized.”

大学院の面接は、英語のテストではありません。

面接官が知りたいのは、あなたがどんな人なのか、どのように考えるのか、なぜその分野を学びたいのか、そしてその大学院で何を学び、どのように貢献できるのかということです。

この55分のコーチングレッスンでは、大学院入試、奨学金面接、その他の英語によるアカデミックな面接に向けて、自分の考えを自然に、明確に、自信を持って伝える力を身につけます。

練習できる内容

・自然で自信のある自己紹介

・学歴や職歴についての説明

・「Tell me about yourself（自己紹介をしてください）」

・なぜ大学院に進学したいのか？ なぜ今なのか？

・なぜこの大学、このプログラムなのか？

・研究分野や学問的な目標についての説明

・これまでの経験と将来の目標をつなげて説明する

・自分の強み、課題、成功体験、失敗から学んだことについて話す

・予想外の質問や難しい質問への対応

・面接の最後に、相手に適切な質問をする

・志望大学・プログラムに合わせた面接対策

・語彙、自然な表現、発音、話し方の改善

「答えの練習」だけではありません

良い面接は、暗記した回答を並べることではありません。

まず、回答の中身そのものを一緒に考えます。

例えば、私はこんな質問をするかもしれません。

「なぜですか？」
「具体的な例はありますか？」
「そこから何を学びましたか？」
「なぜそれが重要なのですか？」
「それは将来やりたいことと、どうつながっていますか？」

そして、あなたの答えをより明確に、簡潔に、自然な英語で伝えられるよう一緒に改善していきます。

目標は、台本を作ることではありません。

自分自身のストーリーを十分に理解し、自分の言葉で自然に話せるようになることです。

本番を意識した模擬面接

面接日が近づいてきたら、コーチング中心の練習から、より本番に近い模擬面接へと進むこともできます。

あらかじめ用意した質問を順番に読むだけではなく、あなたの回答を聞き、その内容に基づいてフォローアップの質問をします。

実際の面接では、練習した通りの質問が出るとは限りません。

準備するべきなのは、一つの「正解」ではなく、会話そのものに対応する力です。

可能であれば、志望大学、プログラム、面接形式、想定される質問やテーマなども確認し、実際の面接にできるだけ近い形で練習します。

私のコーチング方針

私は、面接の回答を丸暗記する方法はおすすめしていません。

暗記した回答は、どうしても暗記しているように聞こえることがあります。また、予想外のフォローアップ質問をされた瞬間に、答えに困ってしまうこともあります。

その代わりに、面接で使える考え、具体例、経験、エピソードを一緒に整理し、さまざまな角度から自然に話せるよう練習します。

面接当日に目指したいのは、

「自分が何を伝えたいのか、わかっている。」

という状態です。

決して、

「暗記した質問が出ますように。」

ではありません。

レッスン前にご用意いただけるもの

可能であれば、志望する大学院や面接についての情報を事前にお送りください。

This tutor's cancellation policy

Cancellation of pack lessons

• 'Unstarted' lesson packs(1) can be cancelled any time. Used Points will be completely refunded. If a 'started' lesson pack(2) is cancelled, you will be refunded 50% of the price of the remaining lessons provided that the lessons are unrequested, unconfirmed or not within 24 hours of their scheduled start times.
(1) A lesson pack for which none of the requests have been confirmed by the tutor.
(2) A lesson pack with at least one confirmed request. (By confirming the date and time for the first lesson in the pack the tutor confirms the pack as a whole and coupons are automatically issued)

Cancelling individual requests in a pack

• If you wish to cancel a single lesson that belongs to a pack but not the whole pack, you can do so via the request page. In this case, the coupon used to book the lesson will either be refunded or collected, based on the tutors single-lesson cancellation policy. Please note that any 50% partial refunds in the tutors single-lesson cancellation policy do not apply to lesson packs and the tutor may choose to either refund or collect the coupon in those cases.

Before request is confirmed (fixed)

  • Cancellation possible at any time without charge.

After request is confirmed (fixed)

  • More than 24 hours before lesson start time.→ Cancellation is possible at any time.
  • Less than 24 hours before lesson start time.→ The tutor may take a cancellation fee.
  • No-Show→ The tutor may take a cancellation fee.
