There is a place deep in the heart of the KZN Midlands that I would describe as a cottage by the lake. But don't be fooled by the word cottage — this is actually a beautiful farmhouse with four bedrooms, three bathrooms, and amenities that were absolutely on point!
I first visited almost exactly three years ago with my best friend. The Seiler House belongs to her son, who graciously offered the cottage to us for a long weekend.
Have you ever heard the sound of a breeze rustling through forest trees?
That was almost all we could hear.
Waking up in the morning to birdsong and taking an early morning stroll through the pine trees was pure bliss. There was something incredibly peaceful about being surrounded by nothing but trees, fresh air and the sounds of nature.
We collected pine cones that we swore were going to become Christmas decorations. Some did... most didn't! ??
We took a walk up to a stream and simply sat in the little pools formed by the rocks. And the afternoon naps? They were probably some of the best naps I have ever had.
But perhaps the best part of all was what we didn't have.
There was no electricity and absolutely zero cellphone coverage.
And honestly? It was the biggest blessing.
For three blissful days, we were completely in the moment. No phones. No emails. No notifications. No distractions.
Just two friends, nature, good conversation and the most beautiful setting imaginable.
Sometimes, I think we forget how much we need to disconnect in order to truly recharge.
That little "cottage" is calling my name again.
I think my batteries are ready for another recharge. ??❤️
