When learning Chinese pronunciation, many students find s and sh difficult to tell apart.
学习中文发音时，很多学生觉得 s 和 sh 很难区分。
For example:
比如：
四 sì = four
十 shí = ten
These two words sound similar, but the tongue position is different. Today, let’s practice them step by step.
这两个字听起来很像，但是舌头的位置不一样。今天我们一步一步来练习。
. How to pronounce S
1. S 的发音方法
When you pronounce s, your tongue is in the front of your mouth.
发 s 的时候，舌头在嘴巴比较靠前的位置。
The tip of your tongue is close to the back of your upper teeth.
舌尖靠近上牙齿的后面。
Let the air come out gently between your tongue and teeth.
让气流从舌头和牙齿之间轻轻出来。

sì — sì — sì
四 sì
The word 四 sì is the fourth tone. It should sound short and clear.
四 sì 是第四声，声音要短、清楚、有力。

2. SH 的发音方法
When you pronounce sh, your tongue moves a little bit back.
发 sh 的时候，舌头要稍微往后一点。
The tip of your tongue curls back slightly.
舌尖轻轻往后卷一点。
Do not curl your tongue too much. Just a small movement is enough.
不要卷得太夸张，轻轻往后就可以。

shí — shí — shí
十 shí
The word 十 shí is the second tone. Your voice should go up.
十 shí 是第二声，声音要往上扬。
3. Compare: 四 and 十

Now let’s compare the two sounds.
现在我们来比较这两个音。

十 shí
Slowly:
慢一点：
sì — shí
四 — 十

四 sì: tongue forward, fourth tone

十 shí: tongue slightly back, second tone

拼音：
Sì shì sì, shí shì shí, shísì shì shísì, sìshí shì sìshí.
Meaning:
意思：
Four is four, ten is ten, fourteen is fourteen, forty is forty.
四就是四，十就是十，十四就是十四，四十就是四十。
