日本では今、木々の新緑が美しく、爽やかな風が気持ちの良い
お出かけにぴったりの季節です。
私は先週末、教育の研修のため、大阪に滞在しました。
研修は朝から夕方まで、けっこうハードでしたが、充実していました。
そして研修の後、せっかくの大阪なので、前から気になっていた
「天王寺動物園」に行ってきました。
ここは日本で２番めに高いビル「アベノハルカス」にほど近い
都市の中の動物園です。
周辺には、芝生の広場や美術館もあり
開放的で気持ちの良いエリアでした。
動物園の中も清潔感があり
道幅も広くて、気持ちよく過ごすことができました。
今回、特に印象的だったのは
「鳥の楽園」で、思い思いに過ごすたくさんの鳥さんをゆっくり見られたこと
室内のライオンを間近で見られたこと
タヌキを近くで見られて、かわいかったこと、です。
タヌキは日本の昔話にもたくさん登場する、日本人にとてもなじみのある動物ですが
都市の日常生活の中では、実際のタヌキを見かけることは、ほとんどありません。
今回は近い距離で観察できて、遠慮がち(?)に歩く姿が愛らしかったです。
タヌキは臆病な性格とのことですが、場合によっては人に懐くこともあるそうです。
そういうところが、昔から日本人に親しまれてきた理由なのかな、と思いました。
大阪でたくさんの動物に会えて、幸せでした。
これからも、いろいろな動物園に行きたいと思います。

I'm a Japanese and English teacher.
In Japan right now, the fresh green leaves of the trees are beautiful, and the refreshing breeze makes it the perfect season for going out.
Last weekend, I stayed in Osaka for an educational training session.
The training was quite demanding, from morning until evening, and it was very fulfilling.
The day after that day, I visited Tennoji Zoo, a place I'd been wanting to go to for a long time.
This zoo is located in the city, very close to Abeno Harukas, the second tallest building in Japan.
The surrounding area has parks and an art museum, making it a very open and pleasant place.
The zoo itself was also clean, and the wide paths made for a very pleasant experience.
What particularly impressed me this time was being able to leisurely observe the many birds enjoying themselves in the "Bird Paradise," seeing the lions up close indoors, and seeing the raccoons up close – they were so cute!
Raccoons are very familiar animals to Japanese people, appearing frequently in Japanese folktales, but in everyday urban life, it's rare to actually see one.
This time, I was able to observe one at close range, and its somewhat hesitant movements were endearing.
I heard that raccoons are timid, but they can sometimes become attached to humans.
I think that's one of the reasons why they've been so beloved by Japanese people for so long.
I was so happy to see so many animals in Osaka.
I'd like to visit many more zoos in the future.
