When and why did I decide to become a teacher?

Weekly Topic: When and why did you decide to become a teacher?

Ms Cathy

Initially, I started teaching English as a hobby. Gradually, it became my primary profession. Now I have years of experience! Actually, I think my life experience and work experience before becoming a teacher make me a better teacher. For example, I have lived and worked abroad, so I know how it feels to be in that position. My finance career as a chartered accountant gave me real-life experience of using some of the functional business language that we use in class. I can certainly empathise with test-prep students! Hobbies like walking in nature, running, movies, theatre, food, and reading make my knowledge of vocabulary for these topics rich and varied.

I enjoy sharing the process of discovery of a language with all my customers from beginners to advanced. It is fascinating to discuss different cultures and traditions. Measurable successes achieved by examination students are very satisfying. Nobody can argue with an improved test score! Business English is constantly evolving and changing, so conversation with Business English customers about teamwork, interviews, meetings, and presentations are always fruitful. We can practise some of the phrasal verbs, collocations, and business idioms people really use.

That is enough about me! Now I want to hear about you and your learning goals.

Why not book a lesson, today?
