Daily English Upgrade #018: Better Questions — “What makes you say that?”

Mohamed Helmy

This question makes conversations deeper (and it sounds natural).

Try:

  • What makes you say that? (curious, not aggressive)
  • Can you share an example? (super useful)
  • What’s your reasoning? (more formal)

Mini practice (20 seconds):
Write a 2-line mini dialogue:
A: “I think remote work is better.”
B: Ask: “What makes you say that?”

It’s much easier to make this natural when you practice it in real conversation. If you’d like, we can work on it together in a 25-minute lesson (supportive corrections, no pressure).
