Daily English Upgrade #017: JP Trap Fix — A vs The (one simple rule)

Mohamed Helmy

Simple rule:

  • a / an = first time / one of many
  • the = specific / already known

Examples:

  • I bought a book yesterday.
  • The book was expensive.
  • Can you open the window?
  • I need a pen.

Mini practice (20 seconds):
Choose a/the:

  1. I need ___ meeting room for tomorrow.
  2. ___ meeting room on the 3rd floor is available.

It’s much easier to make this natural when you practice it in real conversation. If you’d like, we can work on it together in a 25-minute lesson (supportive corrections, no pressure).
