A Turkish Phrase You Can’t Translate Directly: “Kolay Gelsin”

Emine

Hello! I’m Emine, a native Turkish speaker and a Turkish tutor.
Today, I’d like to introduce you to a special Turkish phrase: “Kolay gelsin.”

You will hear this phrase everywhere in Türkiye:
in shops, at work, on the street, at school…

We say “Kolay gelsin” to someone who is working or making an effort.
Its meaning is close to:

  • “I hope your work goes easily”

  • “Good luck with your work”

  • “Take care while working”

But actually, it is more than just a phrase.
It shows kindness, empathy, and respect.
When you say “Kolay gelsin”, you are telling the other person:

“I see your effort, and I respect it.”

There is no perfect equivalent in English, which makes this phrase very special.

If you want to learn Turkish not only as a language but also as a culture,
this is one of the most beautiful expressions to start with.

Kolay gelsin to everyone who is studying today!
