Have You Ever Tried Speaking the Japanese You Studied on Duolingo?
You’ve been studying Japanese on Duolingo, but you may feel unsure:
“Can I actually have a conversation?”
“Talking with a Japanese person feels a little scary.”
I’ve heard these thoughts from many learners.
You’ve seen the words and grammar in the app.
But you may not have had the chance to use them in real conversation.
That feeling is completely natural.
I’m a Duolingo Learner Too
This may surprise you, but I use Duolingo myself.
I’m currently on a 105-day streak, studying:
Vietnamese
Chinese
and reviewing English
By practicing a little every day, you start to feel familiar with the language.
At the same time, another question often comes up:
“Can I really use this when I try to speak?”
Each time I return to being a learner, I clearly feel the gap between
input and output.
You’re Not Unable to Speak — You Just Haven’t Had the Chance
Many Duolingo learners are not “bad at speaking.”
They simply haven’t had:
a place where mistakes are okay
a conversation without judgment
a space where they can speak with the Japanese they have now
Conversation isn’t a test.
Perfection is not the goal.
What matters most is whether your message is understood.
About the Duolingo Conversation Challenge Lesson
I created this lesson after hearing many voices from Duolingo learners.
In this lesson, we do not use:
textbooks
JLPT preparation
step-by-step grammar lessons
Instead, we focus on one thing:
actually trying to speak with the Japanese you already know.
How the Lesson Works
We start with a simple self-introduction.
Then we talk about everyday topics.
Free talk is always welcome.
After the conversation, I give gentle feedback on:
expressions that worked well
places where small changes sound more natural
This is not a lesson where many mistakes are corrected.
You’re also welcome to ask grammar questions that were unclear in Duolingo,
as they come up naturally in conversation.
This Lesson Is a Good Fit If You:
have been using Duolingo but have little speaking experience
want to know your real Japanese level
value real communication over tests and textbooks
are looking for a calm, pressure-free place to speak Japanese
In Closing
The Japanese you’ve studied is already inside you.
This lesson is not about adding more information.
It’s about safely using what you already have.
Your Duolingo practice are already there.
This 25-minute lesson is simply a chance to gently bring them to life.
