As 2025 comes to a close, I find myself reflecting on how much growth, laughter, and learning have filled my classes this year. Every single student I’ve met — whether just beginning to say their first words in Afrikaans or mastering full conversations — has been a reminder of why I love teaching languages.
What I’m most looking forward to at the end of this year is celebrating small victories. For me, that means hearing a student proudly say, “I can do it!” in a language they once found intimidating. Those moments — when confidence replaces fear — are the highlight of my teaching journey.
This holiday season, I’m planning some relaxed and festive lessons to wrap up the year on a positive note. We’ll share stories, learn cultural traditions, and of course, have a few fun games and “language gift exchanges” — where every new word is a present waiting to be unwrapped!
If you’ve been thinking about starting your Afrikaans learning journey (or giving it another try before the new year), now’s the perfect time!
