My Story: What Inspired Me to Begin Teaching

Weekly Topic: What inspired me to begin teaching

Clizia Mondini

If you’ve never taken a lesson with me, I’d like to introduce myself and share my story.

I grew up in Italy, and believe it or not, I didn’t have a strong passion for languages or teaching at first.

As a child, I always dreamed of seeing the world with my own eyes. I lived in a countryside area and had a great desire to explore architecture, history, art, and everything unfamiliar outside of my own culture.

When I was 21, I finally found the courage to move abroad for the first time. It was an incredible experience. I moved to Mainz, Germany, for seven months and fell in love with the idea of moving as a way of life. I enjoy the challenges that come with being a newcomer in a new country. They are both refreshing and rewarding.

At the age of 25, I realized how quickly the world was changing. The internet was becoming more prominent, and having a good knowledge of English felt essential, especially for someone who loves to travel. So, I moved to the United States, where I lived, studied, and worked for over two years.

During my first year in Seattle, I met a teacher who completely changed my view of learning. She made me fall in love with the idea of becoming a teacher myself. Her energy and passion were truly inspiring, and in 2020, I began my journey and completed my certification to become an online tutor.

I feel lucky to have found the right teacher for my learning style. She was fun, supportive, and able to create an engaging and warm learning environment.
