Cultural traditions and fun in Ifugao, Philippines!

Melanie Partin

Hello all!  Interested in culture and old traditions?  I am too!  There are so many different cultures and languages, even within one country alone!  This specific tradition is a festival they have every year in a small town called Hangduan.  It's called the Punnuk festival.  There are elders of the town that do tradition rituals and prayers the day before the main festival day, and then they have the festival itself in the river!  The different villages will compete using tug-of-war in the middle of the river while wearing traditional clothes, along with other traditional games.  It's great fun to watch!  I also had the opportunity to watch their traditional rituals, which they call mumbaki.

There are so many different cultural practices here in the Philippines!  It's such an adventure sometimes to experience these in different places.  Want to learn more?  What are some of your traditions and festivals in your country?  Let's work on grammar and improving your English while we have fun talking about culture, or even other interesting topics.  See you in class!  :D
