When I saw this week's Tutor Column theme 'What is a current hot topic in your country?' there was only 1 possibility : the Marks & Spencer Strawberry sandwich!
This was released last week to coincide with the start of the Wimbledon tennis tournament (where strawberries & cream are the traditional treat). It's a limited edition and has become a sensation on social media.
Apparently inspired by Japan’s iconic fruit sandwiches, it has 2 layers of sweet brioche bread, cut to look like a traditional triangular sandwich, and is filled with whipped cream cheese and juicy Red Diamond strawberries. It’s looks like a sandwich—but now there's furious debate about whether it is actually a dessert (and therefore liable for higher tax!!)
Personally...I'm not going to try it, the idea turns my stomach!! What about you, would you give it a taste?....
