Do you have a resolution for 2023?
I have made a plan that each week I will write a short poem. I find poetry a soothing and relaxing hobby, and am so pleased to look back at the poems I have written. Poetry helps us to slow down, see the beauty in the world, and improve our language skills.
It is a joy to hear the poems other people write. If you are poet, please share your poetry. If you have never written a poem, why not try today?
Some of my students are joinging me in my weekly poetry quest, and writing a poem every week that they share with me. Sometimes they say to me that they don't know what to write about. I always say: look around you! Write about what you see, what you feel, what you do.
My poems so far this year have been about the steam from my coffee cup, the light of sunset on the train tracks, and the joy of the first green shoots after winter. Here is my latest poem; I hope you enjoy it, and that you will come and write poetry with me...
Frost and frozen soil;
My heart is sore and my fingers are numb.
But look! Pushing out of the earth -
The first shoots of spring have come!
