Asking for Directions (Nach dem Weg fragen)
To be polite, always start with "Entschuldigen Sie, bitte..." (Excuse me, please...).
- Entschuldigen Sie, bitte, wo ist...?
- Excuse me, please, where is...?
- Ex: Entschuldigen Sie, bitte, wo ist der Bahnhof? (Excuse me, please, where is the train station?)
- Entschuldigen Sie, bitte, wie komme ich zu...?
- Excuse me, please, how do I get to...?
- Ex: Entschuldigen Sie, bitte, wie komme ich zum Museum? (Excuse me, please, how do I get to the museum?)
- Ist das weit?
- Is that far?
- Ist das nah?
- Is that close/near?

Person B: Ja, gehen Sie hier geradeaus bis zur Ampel. An der Ampel biegen Sie links ab. Dann gehen Sie ungefähr zwei Minuten, und der Bahnhof ist auf der rechten Seite, gegenüber vom großen Hotel. Yes, go straight ahead here until the traffic light. At the traffic light, turn left. Then walk for about two minutes, and the train station is on the right side, opposite the big hotel.
Person A: Vielen Dank! Ist das weit? Many thanks! Is that far?
Person B: Nein, das sind nur ungefähr fünf Minuten zu Fuß. No, that's only about five minutes on foot.
