Germany or Japan - which is better?

I lived and worked in Germany for nearly 8 years and return there often. Why do I like it so much? How is it better (or worse) than Japan? Let's chat about that.
Description
Life in Europe and specifically Germany where I lived for nearly 8 years is in some ways very different from life in Japan. Surprisingly, it is also similar at times. We will discuss any aspects of life in our separate worlds that you are interested in: work, family, traditions, language, culture, school, weather, landscape, politics, etc.
