Australian slang and other typically Aussie expressions and phrases. Australia and New Zealand October campaign
Slang, typical expressions, Aussie sayings and I might even mention a few favourite Aussie foods.
Some things we Australians say, that might not make as much sense to the rest of the world. Lend me an ear and I'll fill you in on what's what !

Please note: From the 19th July 2025 these lessons will now be 35 minute classes, instead of the 25 minutes they were advertised at previously.
So, you probably already know that we Aussies have a reputation for shortening our words.
Australians spell using British English, but we still have some words that we don't use the same way as either the Brits (Poms), the "Yanks" (Americans) or even the "Kiwis" (New Zealanders). Some words are ... well, (almost) uniquely Australian.
I'm sure you know about our BBQs/barbecues/barbeques.
You've probably even heard we cook snags (sausages) on the barbie.
And, although it was once a famous commerical on the tele (television advertisement), no Aussie will ever say, "put another shrimp on the barbie", because, we don't call them shrimp - because they're PRAWNS !

How many "tinnies" have you got in your "esky"?
