Lesson 2: Jobs – Free Talk with Topic I

This lesson focuses on discussing jobs, careers, and work-life balance. Students will practice speaking about their own work or future career plans while exploring cultural perspectives on employment, retirement, and gender roles in the workplace. The lesson uses guiding questions and vocabulary prompts to help learners share opinions and experiences confidently.

Learning Objectives:

  • Build vocabulary related to jobs, careers, and employment.

  • Practice expressing personal experiences, opinions, and future plans.

  • Compare cultural differences in working life, retirement, and job choices.

  • Strengthen conversational fluency through guided and open-ended questions.

Lesson Flow:

  1. Warm-up Discussion – At what age do people usually start working?

  2. Guided Questions – Explore topics such as personal jobs, retirement, balancing work and family, and reasons for changing jobs.

  3. Selective Questions – Optional discussions include dream jobs, differences between a job and a career, workplace relationships, and the pros and cons of being a manager.

  4. Extension Activity – Read and reflect on “Why Jobs Are So Important” to connect real-life reading with discussion.

  5. Wrap-up – Summarize new vocabulary and encourage students to reflect on their career goals.

This lesson is designed to encourage critical thinking and self-expression while helping learners improve their fluency and confidence in workplace-related discussions.
