课程介绍

Graduate school interviews aren’t English tests.

The interviewer wants to understand who you are, how you think, why you want to study there, and what you can contribute.

This 55-minute coaching lesson helps you communicate those things naturally, clearly, and confidently—for graduate school admissions, scholarship interviews, and other academic interviews in English.

What We Can Work On

• Introducing yourself naturally and confidently

• Explaining your academic and professional background

• “Tell me about yourself”

• Why graduate school? Why now?

• Why this program? Why this university?

• Explaining your research interests and academic goals

• Connecting your past experience to your future plans

• Discussing strengths, challenges, achievements, and failures

• Handling unexpected or difficult questions

• Asking thoughtful questions at the end of an interview

• School- and program-specific interview preparation

• Vocabulary, phrasing, pronunciation, and delivery

More Than Practicing Answers

A strong interview isn’t a collection of memorized speeches.

We’ll work on the ideas behind your answers first.

I may ask:

“Why?”
“Can you give me an example?”
“What did you learn from that?”
“Why does that matter?”
“How does that connect to what you want to do next?”

Then we’ll work together to make your answer clearer, more concise, and more natural in English.

The goal is not to create a script.

The goal is to make sure you know your own story well enough to tell it naturally.

Mock Interviews That Actually Feel Like Interviews

As your interview approaches, we can move from coaching into realistic mock interviews.

I’ll ask follow-up questions based on what you say rather than simply reading down a predetermined list.

That matters because the real interviewer may not ask the question you practiced.

You need to be ready for the conversation, not just the question.

When possible, we can also research the university, program, interview format, and likely areas of discussion so that your practice reflects the interview you’re actually preparing for.

What You’re Getting

• Decades of English teaching experience in the U.S. and Japan, including university-preparation courses, high school English, corporate classes, and private instruction

• 4,500+ Cafetalk lessons taught with students, professionals, academics, doctors, executives, and other specialists

• 30 years of professional business experience, useful for applicants to MBA and other professionally oriented graduate programs

• Personalized coaching based on your background, goals, and target program

• Live feedback on both what you’re saying and how you’re saying it

• Vocabulary and natural-expression upgrades

• Interview strategy and realistic follow-up questions

• A detailed post-lesson summary with clear priorities for continued practice

My Coaching Philosophy

I don’t believe in memorizing scripts.

Memorized answers often sound memorized—and they can fall apart as soon as the interviewer asks an unexpected follow-up question.

Instead, we’ll build a collection of ideas, examples, experiences, and personal stories that you know how to talk about from different angles.

By interview day, the goal is for you to walk into the room thinking:

“I know what I want to say.”

—not—

“I hope they ask the question I memorized.”

Before Your Lesson

If possible, please send me information about your target program and interview in advance.

You may also send relevant materials such as:

• Your CV/resume

• Statement of Purpose or Personal Statement

• Application essays

• Research proposal or research interests

• Program or university information

• Interview instructions or questions you have received

Please remove or anonymize any sensitive personal information before sending documents.

Don’t have these materials yet? That’s fine. We can start with your goals and background.

Recommended For

• Master’s and doctoral applicants

• MBA and other professional graduate-school applicants

• Students preparing for scholarship or fellowship interviews

• Applicants to engineering, business, finance, computer science, science, humanities, and other English-language graduate programs

• Strong English learners who want to sound natural and thoughtful—not rehearsed

・「Tell me about yourself(自己紹介をしてください)」
