Halloween Tradition Through Song: “The Night of Halloween”

Weekly Topic: Halloween traditions around the world

Ashley Christina

Halloween, celebrated annually on October 31st in America, is known for spooky costumes, carved pumpkins, trick-or-treating, and supernatural creatures. My original song, “The Night of Halloween,” brings these traditions to life with lyrics about witches, ghosts, vampires, werewolves, and glowing Jack-O’-Lanterns. The lyrics make the song fun to sing along to while learning English. Listen for new vocabulary and see if you can identify the Halloween traditions mentioned. Want to learn more? Song Lyrics:

It’s All Hallow’s Eve tonight

Pumpkins, costumes, what a sight

It’s the night of Halloween

Witches on brooms in a flash

Run away to the pumpkin patch

It’s the night of Halloween

Ghosts are lurking by gravestones

And skeletons crack their bones

It’s the night of Halloween

On this night we won’t be alone

Drunken dancing ‘round the fire

It’s the night of Halloween

Beware the bloodthirsty vampires

Seducing humans with desire

It’s the night of Halloween

Werewolves howl and children scream

Will it be a trick or treat

It’s the night of Halloween

Jack-O-Lanterns burning bright

Casting shadows in moonlight

It’s the night of Halloween

Zombies roaming, what a fright

On this night we will run free

It’s the night of Halloween
