Why Taking a Break Can Actually Help Your English

Katrina Santos

Hi everyone, I’m Katrina!

This week’s topic is “The importance of taking breaks.”

When we are learning English, it can sometimes feel like we should always be studying.

More vocabulary.
More grammar.
More listening.
More practice.

But studying for a long time doesn’t always mean we are learning better.

Have you ever studied English for a long time and then suddenly felt like even simple words were difficult to remember? ??

Sometimes, your brain simply needs a break.

I think this is especially important for speaking practice. When we are tired, we can start thinking too much about grammar, worrying about mistakes, or trying too hard to find the perfect word.

After a short break, it can actually become easier to speak naturally again.

One simple study routine you can try is:

25–30 minutes of English practice

Take a short break

5 minutes of speaking aloud

During those five minutes, you don’t need to say anything complicated.

For example, you can talk about:

  • What you did today
  • What you are going to do tomorrow
  • Something you watched recently
  • A food you like
  • Your plans for the weekend

The goal is not to speak perfectly.

The goal is simply to use the English you already know.

Sometimes improving your English is not about studying more. It is about giving yourself enough time to rest, come back, and try again with a clearer mind.

So if you feel tired while studying English today, maybe taking a short break is actually part of your study too. ??

What do you usually do when you take a break from studying or work?
