Breathing Moment

Weekly Topic: Something fun that you did/will do this season

Njoki A.

Life has a way of getting busy and we end up being overwhelmed by all its bustles and hustles.

As I went through my google photos this week, a particular photo of me feeding the giraffes caught my attention, and for a moment, my mind traveled back to a time when I felt like I was really living!

As a nature enthusiast, most of my weekends were spent out in nature with my friends and family. We took hikes! Went swimming in the rivers, took nature walks and simply, lived!

When I went to the Nairobi Giraffe Centre, I was so emotionally low and felt like I wasn't making any progress in my career. I even decided to go alone as I felt I needed more time alone to reflect upon my life. By the time I left the giraffe center, I had more clarity.

Remarkably, the simple activities at the center lifted a massive weight off my shoulders. The entire process, from checking in and grabbing a handful of grass pellets to feeding those majestic, gentle giants, forced me to be present. Listening to the guide share insights about wildlife conservation gave my mind something beautiful to focus on outside of my own worries.

I capped off the afternoon with a quiet walk along their forest nature trail. What started as a heavy, anxious day ended in complete clarity and peace.

And Oh, trust me I went back, and I plan to go back there as many times!

Looking back, I realize just how vital those "breathing room" moments truly are. I will admit, I have let this healthy habit slide over the last few years. However, seeing this single photograph has completely reignited my desire to return to the great outdoors.

Consider this a gentle reminder from me to you: make time for the things that bring you absolute joy!

What about you? Do you have a favorite outdoor escape, a special travel memory or even vivid childhood memories that always make you smile?
