Hello, this is Emiko.H.
Let me share a little story about “traffic jams” in my town.
Where I live, having a car is a must, so I always try to choose the least crowded routes.
But on certain days—those big supermarket sale days—the roads nearby suddenly get busy.
And that’s when I realize…
“Oh no… it’s the 20th!”
It’s actually quite impressive how those sale days are so popular that I can tell the date just by the traffic.
By the way, have you ever thought about the kanji “渋” used in 渋滞 (juutai, meaning “traffic jam”)?
The left side (氵) represents water, something that flows smoothly.
The right side comes from the idea of “stopping” (止), like feet coming to a halt.
Together, it suggests something that doesn’t flow smoothly — a perfect image behind the word 渋滞.
So today, inspired by all that lively energy…
I decided to join in the fun!
