海外出張から帰ってきましたー♪ I am back from my overseas business trip♪

今回はカナダのバンクーバーへ。

私は、講師以外に日本人留学生を海外でアシストする添乗員もしています。北米ではシャパロンと呼ばれています。

約１０日間生徒も添乗員もホームステイをして、毎日アクティビティやレッスンに参加します。

初日、先生の英語が分からないと泣く生徒さん。

ホームシックだー、と寂しそうにしている生徒さん。色々いらっしゃいましたが、最終日には自信をつけたり、また行きたい、今度はどこがいいかな、と聞いてくる生徒さんがいて、添乗員冥利につきます。

私のホストファミリーはお若いご夫婦で、旦那さんのご家族とカラオケしたり、美味しい鍋を作ってくれたりと楽しいひとときを過ごしました。

もちろんこのお仕事は英語圏に行くので英語力とコミュニケーション力が必要。英語と母語である日本語を使ってできる数ある仕事の一つです。

I stayed in Vancouver, Canada this time. In addition to teaching English, I work as an assistant for Japanese students participating in English‑language programs. In North America, this role is commonly called a chaperone.

Both the chaperones and the students take part in various activities and lessons over the course of about ten days.

There was a student who cried because she couldn’t follow the class, and another who felt homesick and missed her family. But by the end of the program, most of them seemed more confident. Some even said they wanted to join another program and were already wondering where they should go next. Hearing that made me genuinely happy.

My host family was a young couple. We had a wonderful time singing karaoke at the husband’s parents’ house and enjoying hotpot with their friends.

This job takes me to English‑speaking countries where I can use both my English and communication skills—one of many roles that require fluency in both English and Japanese
