Questions you should never be afraid to ask your tutor

Weekly Topic: Questions you should never be afraid to ask your tutor

Naeema Hoosen

As a tutor I noticed over the years, in order to be respectful and polite, students feel shy to ask their tutor questions...

We can speak about this in 2 ways :

Questions related to the lesson / topic ; A personal question students want to ask.

From the first lesson, I encourage my student to be open and ask my questions, I tell them in our trial lesson to stop me while I'm teaching if they need to ask me any question if they are unsure about something relating to the lesson..

Never feel shy to ask your teacher any question even if you think its silly, you will get a better understanding and it will benefit you in your learning journey.

Regarding a personal question students want to ask, some students have asked me what I ate for lunch or dinner, some detail about my country or if the lesson had a question about something personal they needed to share they will ask me the question.

I will answer accordingly ...  I did have an experience from a young student when I was asked a question and I politely said I won't be able to answer you...

So to wrap up, here are 5 tips :

  • Never be shy to ask if you don’t understand.
  • Always ask for examples to make things clear.
  • Ask how you can study better at home
  • Ask what you need to improve on.
  • Ask how the lesson connects to real life.
