Daily English Upgrade #007: Pronunciation — PREsent vs preSENT (stress changes meaning)

Mohamed Helmy

Quick pronunciation win: stress can change meaning.

PREsent (noun) = a gift
preSENT (verb) = to show / to give a presentation

Examples:

  • I bought a PREsent for my friend.
  • I will preSENT the plan tomorrow.

Mini practice (20 seconds):
Say these out loud (slow, then normal):

  1. I bought a PRESENT.
  2. I will present the plan tomorrow.

It’s much easier to make this natural when you practice it in real conversation. If you’d like, we can work on it together in a 25-minute lesson (supportive corrections, no pressure).
