Cosy Christmas Reading for All Ages.

Christmas is not Christmas without Dickens. Without Mrs Dickens, England probably would not have a tradition of ‘plum pudding’.

I encourage you to delve into some Dickens this Christmas and consider the Ghost of Christmas Past and the Ghost of Christmas Present! Don’t be an Ebeneezer Scrooge!

Whatever your religion or heritage, remember that Christmas traditions are always fun. Did you know that the tradition of showing the Robin Redbreast on Christmas

cards in the UK started because postmen in England used to wear red coats? The postmen delivering Christmas cards were nicknamed ‘Robin Redbreasts’. Later, pictures of Robin Redbreasts  started appearing on Christmas cards.

Lovely books to read for adults in winter are ‘A Christmas Carol’ by Charles Dickens (obviously) and ‘The Snow Child’ by Eowyn Ivey.

Small children will enjoy ‘The Jolly Postman’ by Janet and Allan Ahlberg. Poetry fans of all ages should read ‘A Visit from St Nicholas’ by Clement Clark Moore. Extract from this classic poem are freely available on the internet. Read it to your sons and daughters on Christmas Eve.

Crack open some mince pies and enjoy!
