THE DOT-A SMALL START CAN LEAD TO SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL

Weekly Topic: Best book you read this year!

Teacher Selina

This year, I revisited one of my favourite inspirational children's book: The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds. It is a simply story with a powerful message- one that speaks deeply to who I am as a tutor. I also read this story to my two daughters aged 4 and 9, and watching their little faces light up reminded me why I love this book so much. Children understand its message instantly. The book follows a young girl named Vashti, who believes she can't draw. Her teacher gently encourages her to 'make a mark and see where it takes you.' That tiny dot becomes the beginning of her confidence, creativity and courage to try.
As a tutor, this message mirrors my teaching belief:
Everyone can grow.
Everyone can start somewhere.
Sometimes all you need is a little encouragement to discover your potential.
Just like Vashti, many students arrive thinking they "can't," but I love being the voice that says, "Try. Start small. I am here with you." Once you make your first mark, whether it is a new word, a brave sentence, or a small step forward- SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL BEGINS.
May you make your own "dots" today, and see where it takes you.
