みなさんは「海の日」を知（し）っていますか？
「海の日」は、日本の祝日（しゅくじつ）です。
この日は、海を大切（たいせつ）にする日です。
海の仕事（しごと）や、海の恵（めぐ）みに「ありがとう」と思（おも）う日です。
「海の恵み」は「海からもらうたくさんのいいもの」のことです。
例（たと）えば、魚（さかな）や貝（かい）や塩（しお）などです。
海でとれる食（た）べ物（もの）や生活（せいかつ）に大事（だいじ）なものを「海の恵み」と言います。
日本は島（しま）の国（くに）です。
周（まわ）りに海がたくさんあります。
だから、「海、ありがとう！」という気持ち（きもち）で、「海の日」をお祝（いわ）いします。
日本が島の国じゃなかったら、「海の日」はなかったかもしれませんね・・・！？

July 21st is “Marine Day.”
Do you know “Marine Day”?
“Marine Day” is a national holiday in Japan.
This day is a day to cherish the ocean.
We think “Thank you” to the ocean work and the blessings of the sea.
“Blessings of the sea” means many good things we get from the sea.
For example, fish, shellfish, salt, and so on.
We call food and important things we get from the sea “blessings of the sea.”
Japan is an island country.
There is a lot of ocean around Japan.
So, people celebrate “Marine Day” with the feeling of “Thank you, ocean!”
If Japan was not an island country, maybe there would be no “Marine Day”...!?
