Speak Natural English: Expressing Opinions

Brian L

Hi! I'm Brian-sensei, and I help learners speak natural, everyday English.
Here are two useful phrases from my phrasebook, Speak Natural English: 50 Must-Know Phrases for Japanese Learners.

I’m not gonna lie,
正直に⾔うと〜。⾃分の正直な気持ちを伝えるときのカジュアル表現。

Example:
A: Do you like this movie?
この映画好き?
B: I’m not gonna lie, it’s kinda boring.
正直に⾔うと、ちょっと退屈かな。

If you ask me,
私に⾔わせれば〜。軽い意⾒の前置きに使う。

Example:
A: Which is better, coffee or tea?
コーヒーと紅茶、どっちが好き?
B: If you ask me, coffee’s way better.
私に⾔わせれば、断然コーヒー。

Give these a try in your next message or conversation!
